going back to Matoula for the 3rd time on the 4th August, the apartments and the town are fantastic and the locals are very friendly and welcoming. I'd recommend the Greek Nights in the pool bar, worth the money and I can gaurentee you'll have a laugh! Spiros the bar manager is a legend!!! I'd also recommend Faro's Taverna and Woody's taverna on the sea front, fab owners and fab meals and beautiful sunsets!

If you are wanting days out try and book them through Castaways which is in the town, you can get lots of trips cheaper through them than booking through the reps, the lady is english and knows a lot about Corfu as she has lived there a long time. i recommend Acharavi's water park "Hydropolis". if you book through Castaways you can get in cheaper than paying on the door. Other trips i'd recommend are Corfu Town Shop and Swim, the BBQ cruise and Paleokastritsa. On the other hand if you wanted a day at the beach in Acharavi try the Banana Boat and buy an ice-cream or a doughnut off the ice-cream man

Lauren C

have now been to these apartments twice now. went last summer in july 05 and 2 years before that. im 18 now and even with getting older i would still recommend Acharavi to people, especially this accomodation.its always clean, the staff are so friendly. the old guy that cleans the pool dont speak much though. Spiros the bar man is a ledgend, its worth going to see him!!

the hotel bar is really good, never ate in there, went out to eat. but the breakfasts where good. is quite large, 2 pool tables and if you're nice to Spiros he sometimes gives you free goes. they usually have a quiz and bingo some nights and the Greek nights on fridays are so much fun.

when you leave the entrance of the accomodation, turn left walk for about 2mins and you have a beach, shops, bars and a really cute acfe which does a nice english breakfast. turn right, walk for bout 2mins and you get the main strip. full of tavernas, bars and shops. it really is a truely nice place to go to.

if you never have been b4, trust me this place is really nice and this accodation is probably the nicest you will find. i met so many new ppl and are still in contact years later. Spiros even rememberd us when we went back the second time. and if you go in the bar and there is still football shirts hung up, look for the Nottingham forest one, that belongd to me and my lot!!

have a good holiday!!!

xx

Dean A

Hi Jenny,

Yes the studios have basic cooking facilities (2 rings) and pretty sure they had a kettle, but not 100% sure, it was just as easy to pop down to the bar in the morning for a cuppa!

Being set along a quiet beach road it is very peaceful day and night, the only nose you MAY hear is from other holiday makers, no one can guarantee they will be quiet!

Acharavi is a peaceful resort, no way is it a mini britain, in fact, I would say brits are in the minority there! There is plenty of places to eat and drink, and some lovely shops. Roda is only 20 minutes walk away for a change of scenery. This year will be our 4th visit, so it must be doing something right, in our eyes at least!

Hope this helps, if theres anything else please ask!

We stayed in August 2005 and found the apartments superb.  They were only a short stroll to the beach one way, and the main town the other.  We found the snack bar slightly lacking in atmosphere unless you were football crazy, and you couldn't get a half decent cup of tea or coffee, but the service was good and Spiros was friendly enough.   Would certainly recommend them, some of the more upmarket apartments I've stayed in over the past 15 years of Greek travel!   You do pay for air-con, but you do in all the apartments nowadays, it's only free in hotels (where you pay for it in your holiday cost anyway).

Sandra S

Hi, just got back from Matoula Apartments, went for 2 weeks 2nd - 16th September 2005.  Its was absolutely fabulous.  Apartments spotless, cleaned everyday apart from Sunday's.  Watch out for Air Con, as someone else commented recently, advertised as free, but actually 8 Euro's per day for apartments, and 4 Euro's for studios. We loved it so much we have booked to go back in August 2006. Can't wait.  Love to Spiros, he works all the hours, and still has time for a smile and chat.  Anybody considering going to Matoula should not hesitate, it was the best holiday I, my Partner Mark and my 2 children, Danielle (14) and Connor (9) have ever had.

Hi, Anyone got any photos of the Matoula please, inside and out side. Thank You Christine christine211159@hotmail.com

hi is there accomodation at the hotel where spiros is the apartment in acharavi, as we are traveling there on our honeymoon on the 17 sept and my future husband says it's great, please help thanx

Hannah D

We went to matoula apartments two years ago and are going back on the 1st -16th august this year as we enjoyed it so much. The apartments were cleaned approx every other day to a high standard. spiros the bar manager is really good with people of all ages and the food is also good and served throughout the day until around 8pm and drinks until everyone has gone. is any one elso going between these dates? In acharavi they offer cheap day trips at castaway travel at really reasonable prices, (you can get really good deals which can be alot cheaper than the holiday reps offer you) There are plenty of restaurants around acharavi most placed near the sea front, everyone is really friendly and very welcoming. we are really looking forward to going back again, hopefully we wont get too burnt.

Louise N

Just back from Matoula Apartments on the 18th June, have to say it was the best holiday ever.Spiros was great ,he is still working all hours. My son was in the Tassos Apartments aswell and he loved it so much that him and his girl have booked up for next year already.

The food was good in the Matoula and the pool was good.We ate out most nights cos the food was so cheap, especially brilliant food at Valentines up on the main street.

Only a couple of warnings for anyone going into a Studio Apartment if your kids are over 10 years,be careful with the z-beds, there not the best quality and have been around for a while .I think everyone complained about them but there was nothing the reps could do!
Air conditioning - payable locally - advertised and clarified thats it is free,we didnt need it but anyone going over there now might.

Anyone going over there soon have a great time ,its such a lovely place.

Carol D

I went with my husband and two daughters age 16 & 13 it was our first time in corfu/greece we normally go half board to spain but we spent a lot less money self catering at the matoula apartments. we ate out at a different restuarant each night, they were all lovely also the chinese was spot on.It is less than 5 mins walk to go to the main street or to the beach. We will be going again. I would recomend it to anyone who wants a chilled holiday. We went in june for my 40th birthday.

Tracy F

hi woodys

Tracy F

i loved it was great a few mins from the beach in acharavi there is a place called woodys they are great there food is lovely and the people were spiros maria and there doughter alexander from tracy farmer

Kay K

We went here in may 2004 it was the best holiday we have had when we came back we booked to go back with in a week. It is so clean you are about 3 minutes walk from the beach and about 5 mins walk from main street, which means the noise levels are great these appartments are right next to olive groves so on a night time there are hundreds of fire flys it is amazing to see. The acharavi park restaurant is the best, We ate there most of the time the service is great and the prices are even better i would recomend people to try the places i promise you wont be disappointed.

Christine E

Hearing great things about Matoula apartments, but after reading through comments have seen that someone said there was another Matoula that was smaller and shabbier. Can someone confirm that the Matoula Apartments I am ging to in July 05 has 49 air conditioned rooms, a swimming pool with an additional raised sun bathing area and a jacuzzi??? ANy phots would be great. We are part of a group of 4 adults 2 x 16 year old girls and 1 x 11 year old girl. Is there plenty for them to do??

Jan W

We had 2 lovely weeks in the Matoula App,in Sept never stayed in anywere as nice, we were above reception, had some boilers opposite in the next doors grounds but can honestly say it never botherd us, after the first day.The place was full [ we were told] but we're did all the people go, as we could always get a bed around the pool. The only down fall was getting thrown out of the apartment at 12mid day on the return journey terrible if your flight was'nt untill midnight, thier was the use of showers, but talking to other people it happens in ever apartment in Corfu, who like us had tried to pay to keep the apartment for the afternoon. Lovely walk to Roda from Acharavi, and its supprising how far you can travel on the :B: roads on a push bike.
Go to WOODYS on the sea front for a lovely meal and warm reception, this way you dont encounter the bats on your way home.
We are trying Roda next year but we will be taking a walk to WOODYS to see you all and to have some more of your lovely RED wine, c.y.in 2005 jan

Yvonne B

We had a lovely holiday in Acharavi at the Matoula apartments only down fall was the fold down bed which my 15 year old daughter was given to sleep on. It was a metal campbed with a very thin mattress, as a result my daughter slept on the floor for the full two weeks. Requests to the hotel and the travel reps for a proper mattress was declined with lots of excuses made for not giving us one despite there being a store room full of proper mattresses on the complex.
Holidaymakers with children over the age of 10 beware if you have booked a studio apartment because the bed is not adequate for anyone over that age. Apartments do not have air con which would have been beneficial as it was so hot at night otherwise a great family holiday and very friendly. We would consider going back there in the future.

Terry H

Thanks again Dean - all your advice has been gratefully received and we have today booked 2 weeks at the Matoula Apts starting Aug 15th next year.
Thanks again for all your help.

for information on Acharavi and all resorts in Corfu, try this site
www.agni.gr it contains all the info u will ever need, and much more u probably won't(!!)for all travellers to Corfu, and there are many Corfu residents in the forums to give you up to date advice and tips for your holiday

Dean A

Hi again Terry, dont want to seem like a know all, but the beach is mainly sandy with a little ridge of stones just as u enter the sea, but once in the sea its all sand. Its also very shallow, so its perfect for kids. You will find plenty of lovely tavernas in Acharavi, these are mainly situated on the beachfront and along the main road of the town, i wont recommend a favorite because everyones taste differs, but I can honestly say i never had a bad meal in 2 weeks, and never went home hungry either!
hope this helps

Terry H

There appears to be conflicting information about the beach at Acharavi. Is it sand, pebble, shingle or a mixture? Also, are the tavernas in plentiful supply there?
Everyone's help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Terry

Dean A

Your welcome Terry, Matoula Apts are a lovely place to stay, im sure u wont be disappointed. There is a larger water park in central Corfu, we cant comment because we never went, but im sure the one in Acharavi will be plenty good enough for you all. We might even see you there next year, as we are going to book up at Matoula again next year, and we are considering August too!

Terry H

Thank you very much Dean - sounds like a 'must do' with two water babes to keep happy. I didn't have any idea that it was so close to Acharavi. We have been agonising over where to go next year and I think that this has clinched it. So, we are just about to book for 2 weeks in August next year at the Matoula Apts. We appreciate your advice.

Dean A

Hi Terry, the waterpark (Hydropolis) is a leisurely half hours walk from Matoula Apts. Its well worth a visit we took our 7 yr old twice while we stayed there. Prices are 15E for adults and 10E for children, but you can get discounted tickets from local tour operators on the main road. One word of warning though, the waterpark is set in a valley, so you have to go down a big slope to get in, and the slope seems twice as long on your way out if its as hot as it was when we were there! Just walk to the main road from the apartments and turn left past main supermarket and keep walking, you wont be able to miss it, have a great time!

Terry H

Hi - can anyone tell me how far the AcquaPark is from the Matoula Apartments please and is it worth a vist? I have two children aged 5 and 7
Thanks

Fiona M

We too are travelling to Matoula apartments from 30 Aug (see you there Steve Beard!). My abiding memory from a previous holiday on Corfu was being bitten to death by mosquitos! Can anyone tell me what they are like around there? Also is Aqualand or the local waterpark suitable for our small 2 year old?

Victoria J

Just arived back from Matoula(31/07).What a fantastic place the staff could'nt be more helpful and Sprios was the best host in the bar. Only 2 mins from the beach and town and the pool was never too crowded or noisy (well until my kids got going).
Also the apts were very clean and i think there was only 1 day that the maid service did'nt come and make our beds which was great.
Will definatly be going back.

Kevin B

is it best to take Euro travellers cheques or sterling travellers cheques??? (are there any advantages in either???)

Brian D

we have visited almost all of corfu resorts over the last 20 years or so and the matoula is definately the cleanest, most hospitable and friendly place i have had the pleasure to stay at,the pool and bar areas are excellent and you are just a short stroll from the beach or acharavi centre, the prices at matoula and acharavi were very fair, never got ripped off once. it is a perfect location if you hire a car to visit all of the north of the island,we will definately be going back again. thanks to all the staff for making it a pleasant stay especially spiros the bar tender,a right character once you get to know him.

Natalie B

We have just arrived back from the Matoula Apartments and cannot praise them enough! Apartments are spotlessly clean, with all appliances in and working. Pretty basic but all Greek accommodation is. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was plenty big enough for 4 people (me, my partner, my bro and his partner), with a lovely big terrace. No Aircon but not needed as apartments were very cool. Thre pool and Bar area are again very clean and the Barman Spiros is lovely...he works there 24/7 and always looks knackered but is in very good spirits even though! I would thouroughly recommend The Lemon Garden restaurant for a place to eat as the food was excellent and very resonably priced. We went there 4 out of the 7 nights and never had a bad meal. All in all great apartments in a great resort!

Kevin B

We will be staying at the Matoula apts in Acharavi

My husband and I are arriving at Matoula apartments in the early hours on 15th June for a week. Just wondering if there are any couples who will be there at the same time as us?

Alison

MYSELF AND MY 2 CHILDREN AGED 9 AND 6 YEARS ARE
STAYING AT THE MATOULA APTS FOR THE SECOND TIME, 12 JULY 2004.
I AM TRAVELLING ON MY OWN WITH MY FAMILY FOR THE 1ST TIME. JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE IS IN THE SAME SITUATION. WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Dean A

me, my wife and our 7 yr old son are going to stay at the Matoula apts (First Choice) on 28th June 2004, and were wondering if any other families are going with kids of similar ages to our son, as he tends to get bored of adult company very easily, and us adults would like a few moments to ourselves!! look forward to hearing from u

Ewan S

Would anyone recommedn coming here in early October?

H R

We visited the matoula in june this year. It is by far the best holiday we have ever had. Will definately be back next. Totally recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all. Go to sunset beach for the sunset (the other side of Sidari) for a treat that will last in your mind forever. Heaven.

Simon D

This is a superb place for a nice relaxing holiday.
Clean, tidy, quiet & modern..........
Everything you need is close to hand & there are a a great selection of Taverna's situated within a short walk.
I would recommend thouhg that if anyone gets a Hennah Tattoos (up on main street)that they wash it before going to bed as the manger goes 'Ape like' (& that's an understatement) if you get any marks on the bed linen (as friends of ours found out to their cost!!
Apart from that, it is a great place for a family holiday & I would definately go back again.

Simon B

MY FAMILY HAVE VISTED CORFU FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS AND STAYED AT THE MATOULA APTS WHICH IS HIGHLY RECOMEDNED FRIENDY STAFF AND VERY CLEAN COULD NOT FIND FAULT .OUR FRIEND CAME THIS YEAR LOVED EVERY MINUTE AND WEVE BOOKED FOR 2004 WATCH OUT FOR US AROUND THE POOL AREA WERE FROM BRISTOL AND A VERY FRIENDLY LOT. RECOMEND EATING AT FAROS DOWN BY SEA FRONT VERY FRIENDLY AND CHILDREN VERY WELCOME.

David C

We were very impressed with the Matoula apartments. The main pool is excellent (we had it to ourselves until about 10am most mornings, in fact) and alongside is a little kiddy pool and a jacuzzi (the latter is chargeable, you ask the barman to turn on the pump).

The apartment itself was clean and comfortable. We were two couples in adjacent apartments, in fact, and each had twin beds, a toilet/shower room and kitchen area with fridge and two electric rings. We did have a phone, but in these days of roaming cellphones we didn't try using it.

The complex is halfway between the main shopping street and the beach - it is a 2-3 minute walk from the complex to each of these. So it's close enough to stuff to be convenient, but far enough away not to be noisy.

The bar is excellent, with a friendly barman who seems to work from 9am until 2am! There are lots of themed nights (Greek nights, quizzes, Bingo, etc), and the beer and food are both decent and cheap.

The staff are all friendly - bar staff, receptionist and even the guy who maintains the complex, does the garden, etc.

There's a central reception area where you can use a safety deposit box (at no charge) to store your valuables. We didn't perceive any real security issues, but it's best to be on the safe side - particularly because we found the easiest way to keep the apartment cool was to leave the back door open but just close the louvred shutters.

If you're going there, you should also definitely visit the Lemon Garden bar (cocktails/beer and chilling out in the citrus orchard after dark), the Pumphouse restaurant (vast menu and excellent food) and Freddo's (modern-design bar with air-con - ideal for hot afternoons, particularly given that there's an ice-cream shop attached). All of these can be found on the main street - turn right out of the apartment complex and walk for the abovementioned 2-3 minutes.

We'd heard that there's actually another apartment complex called Matoula just up the road, and that it wasn't very good; we came across it halfway through the week and although we didn't go in, it looked a bit squalid from the outside - and it's right beside the pavement on the main street.

We heartily recommend the Matoula apartments to anyone visiting Acharavi.

Clare B

We went to Matoula when it was just 4 apartments and watched as the swimming pool was dug and there was building work going on all around us!. The next year we stayed at a different apartment but thought we would go back to take a look at what had been built. We were so impressed we went for 5 years on the trot. Our memories of Corfu are the best, even gave everything up and worked in Whispers for a while. I love the Matoula and would go back any day.

Brendan R

has any 1 got any photos or info on the Matoula Appt.?

Kevin S

WE loved the apartments , they wre clean, spacious and well equiped. The reception exchanged money, provided a security box and provided a luggage room prior to departure. The entire staff were only to glad to help . The pools was clean and safe for all ages. The beach was only 5 mins walk away , so too were the countless resaurants. Our favourite restaurant was the Pumphouse , ( as you walk from the apartments up the short drive to the shops etc, turn left walk for 2-3 mins till you come to a small roundabout cross over and the pumphouse is there on the corner of the roundabout) .My wife and i can reccomend the apartments to anyone wishing to have a superb , lovely , relaxing and entertaining holiday, with or without children . We look forward to going back again as soon as we can ..... ps we are sure you will feel the same too.............

Kirsty S

Information about Matoula Studios & Apartments Acharavi, Corfu . Thanks

Shaun W

Very nice appartments. We came here in 1999 after being to Skiathos in 1997 and were amazed at the quality of the appartments. More like Spain than Greece. Probably get slaughtered for that comment! Superb location, so many places to eat. Best along the seafront to watch the gorgeous sunsets. Great pool and pool bar serving snacks. Essential for a great holiday.

Pete A

The Matoula Appartments near the beach (as oppossed to Matoula2 in the high street) is a smart complex that looks a bit like a hotel, with a staffed reception desk. The desk provides an exchange service, and shower rooms & a luggage storage area for departin guests are available. The rooms are very nice and large with marble floors, direct dial telephones, bathroom & kitchen facilities (fridge, rings, cooker hood, utensils, crockery, kettle). The larger family rooms also have microwaves. There is a large pool with a seperate childrens pool, free sunbeds and a snack bar. This accomodation is popular with families
