Been going to Elena Apartments for 5 years now. Family run and really friendly. Just returned a week ago and missing it already. Apartments are clean and spacious as well!! Vangelis, George and Jenny are just brilliant. Great for kids as it is very safe for them to play. Pool is lovely and clean and food is also great!! Nice and quiet at night.

My fiancee and I are considering Elena Apartments for our Honeymoon in June 2005. I have seen some average, poor and excellent comments from a number of people.

Who would recommend this place for a honeymoon?

Ben J

We’ve (11 of us) just returned back home after spending two weeks (mid may) at Elena Studios & Apartments in Sadari (offered by Kosmar). On travelling to the apartments, it became apparent just how poor the Greeks these sides of Corfu really are. The state of the houses (most incomplete) was terrible, and in my opinion needed knocking down. The streets were littered and the roads were worse than I imagined.

We arrived at our apartment, which were out in the sticks, approx. 1.5hrs after landing. Being in the sticks wouldn’t have been so bad if the owners had offered entertainment! We had a pool, 3ft shallow side, 9ft deep side, and small bar/restaurant. The owner offered a Greek Night (once) which consisted of three Greek dancers and a BBQ. The BBQ was not self-service, you got a small chop a bit of veg and a small amount of potatoes, all this cost 16euros, very disappointing!!

The apartment we had was clean and very basic. A cleaning lady came in once a day to sweep and mop, sheets were changed once a week and towels (one per bed) every now and then!! As you walked, in the front door, to the left you found the kitchen, which consisted of one small worktop with a dual electric hob on top and an electric grill/oven underneath. A fridge was supplied which housed copious amounts a Amstel while we were there!! Facing the kitchen was a small table and three chairs.

The bathroom, to the left of the kitchen, was very small, the larger gentleman will find it difficult to use the shower, our apartments (we had three between us all) seemed to be missing a shower holder, so you had to wash with one hand whilst holding the shower head with the other, this is whilst fighting with the lack of shower space!! The sink in the bathroom was equally as small and a bathroom cabinet, which was placed directly above the sink was forever coming into contact with the top of my head!!Walking into the main room we found three beds, which were uncomfortable and caused backache. One small Wardrobe (for three!!) was supplied. Luckily we were drunk most nights!! Each apartment had a balcony or veranda. The mozzies can be a pain to some, however, out of the three sharing the apartment, only one out got attacked – NOT ME :-)

A warning about the paths around the pool, they wouldn’t pass a safety inspections in the UK. Two paths, made using a crazy pathing style, were crumbling, and there were gaps (like small steps) between the top of the paths and the pool surround itself. I injured myself on one such path, requiring medical treatment whilst I was there, which cost my 240 Euros!! I was one of two in our apartment that suffered pain due to these unsafe paths.

Travelling to Sadari town took about 40mins, however I’m not the fastest of walkers. Leaving Elena Studios and Apartments was equally as disappointing, the local Greeks had decided to start a rubbish tip, which grew daily, not a pretty site. On reporting this to Elena’s bar man, I was told its up to the local residents and he could do nothing, maybe true, but its not exactly a welcoming site to holiday makers!

Round the corner from our complex we found a hotel offered by Cosmos, I seem to recall its name been Damia’s Hotel. A fair much luxurious hotel offering far more facilities and a much better quality of service. We had several nights out in this hotel and was sorry we hadn’t booked through Cosmos, the owner, a lovely lady, explained it was the same price as the place we were staying :-(

I highly recommend a breakfast at Spiro’s restaurant, found on the left hand side, next to a small supermarket, on the way to Sadari Town, there is a large hotel facing and you’ll be greeted by Emma the Dog (pictures available). We had a Spiro’s special every morning, a good start to the day :-) - It’s a family run business and the service, like the food, was great :-)

A visit to Corfu Town was very disappointing, buildings were actually falling down around us whilst we were there. On the whole, we all had an average holiday, apart from the complex we stayed at, however I don’t think I’ll be visiting Sadari, or even Greece ever again.

Mail me if you want (ben.jackson@bdms.me.uk)

Hi Kay Whittle,
Yes the Elena Appartments are with Golden Sun. A long family run business by Elena herself - well the original owners grand daughter now(!) As I mentioned before they are VERY BASIC - sorry I have no pictures - I haven't as yet upgraded to a digital camera! They are one room with twin beds. As you walk in there is a cooking facility (very basic) on the left with a basic bathroom next to it - shower, toilet and wash basin - again very basic - remember you can not flush toilet paper down the loo - so a good suggestion is to take scented nappy sacks to put waste paper in! Toilet paper quite hard - bring some soft paper from home) Opposit this is a small table and two chairs for eating if required. The beds are along the wall to the left with a dressing table and mirror on the right and a wardrobe infront of you. The double balcony or terrace doors are also infront of you and if you are lucky enought to have a ground floor studio you can hop over and into the pool.
Another small but good warnign is the mosquitos!!! You will probabley get bitten - areas of Spain and the Canarys. I would recomend that you buy sprays, lotions and plug in's and the slow burining "coils" so when you sleep at night it does keep them at bay some what.(They are pretty cheap in Corfu - but you will need them as soon as you arrive in your room.) Please dont be put of by this as it will not hinder your hoilday. - Apparently they hate potassium - so eat a banana a day a few weeks before you go and while you are there and they can go and bug others instead of you - oh and they hate garlic - that call is up to you!
We only stayed a week and our sheets were not changes once - a friend stayed two weeks and had fresh shees for the 2nd week only - a hand towl and a bath mat wer provide each week and they DID NOT replace then - however dirty - I asked for new ones and it took two days to get them!! - so pack your own bathm pool etc towels - and sheets if you require. The appatrmenments were tidied and mopped every other day.
The reps (good to above average) come every 2 -3 days for any problems that may arrise and there is a notice board on the complex to show when pick up's and departures are due. The bar staff will also help you if there are great problems and the supermatket next door is also owned by the owners so they are on hand if there are any urgent problems.
Sorry to go on - but I hope this helps you - I am sure you will have a great time - think I've mentioned everything - but any other questions I'll try and help if possible.
Enjoy!

Kay W

phillipa duffy hi are the elana studios u stayed at belong to golden sun. If so can u just confirm this, only there seems to be several with this name
thanks kay

I went as a l;ast minute booking.
The coach trip from the airport takes approx 1.5 hours - but dont worry it goes very quickley as it's al the drop off and you get a chance to see the different areas of Corfu as you travel up north to Sidari.
Elena Appartments are family run - but are very basic studio appartments - which in my view is all you need. It is quiet and relaxing and only a few yards from the main stretch - but that doesn't make an impact with any noise. There is a small and a medium pool attached - if you on the lover floors you can hop over the terrace and into the pool area. To pools have plenty of room even if the complex if full - rember though - ALL hotles and appartments encourage you to eat, drink and swim in there accomodation - so different visitors each day are expected. And if you go for a wlak take towels etc so you can enjoy other pools as well.
There is a very nice bar attached to the appartments which opens at 9am every - fresh tea and coffee and snacks all day - and of course "beer!". The staff are very friendly and helpful and get to know the residents. It closes when you leave or they are too tired! They do bbq, show DVD's of the latest films - have football showing -so guys you wont miss any important games!)It is very peaceful - even though the beach is only a 3 minutes walk away and so is the main Sidari town. There is plenty for everyone from 1 month old to the OAP's! Resturants are plenty and all bars are potential night clubs - there are greek night - but you need to book as they are at different venus on different nights. The food is reasonabley priced (2 adults and 1 child approx £10 - £15.00) You can also get the traditional english food at any of the eatiries if you miss home that much!.
A must is to hire out a moped/scooter. Crash helmets are optional - but in some towns they must be worn. Prices start at about £7.00 per day but I recomend that you hire for a week where the owners will make you fantastic deals - we hired 2 scooters for 4 days and it cost £18.00!!!!! (Jim's Bikes on the main one way system - dont forget your drivers licence!)Travel around the island following the beach roads - you can do 1/4 of the island in a day and stop at the most georgeous beaches I have ever seen. (Petrol stations are placed very conveniently and the scooters cost about £2.00 to fill to full - about 3.5 euros) The locals are very friendly- whereever you go. Try out the local resturants and sample the greek food - super! There is also the reverse bungee to be done- along the main town road - Go for it!!! - it costs (August 2003) £10 per person - WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!
Shopping is minimal (But hey you didn't go to shop!!??)- but great bargis to be found and nobody in England will have the sylish trousers/top you happend to find. Coach trips go each day to Corfu town - quite a long treck - but great if you want to shop, shop, shop!!!
What else can I say about Sidari - travel around - see the history and culture - Relax during the day and party till your heart is content in the evening or just sit and chill uinder the blue sky and warm breeze.
I loved it - so much I am back again in May to see any bits I may of missed!!
ENJOY!!!!

please please has anybody got any recent pickies of the elena apartments and studios as were going in july and i am a bit nervous as ive read some of the comments from last year awating emails on micko62@aol.com thanks all xx

Lisa F

june this year will be our third visit to the elena appartments we are going back with a party of 24, 7 of which are also returning for the forth time. george, jenny and vangelis are hosts that go well beyond the call of duty to ensure that all of your needs are catered for. the location is perfect for a family holiday you will never want to leave.

Annette

The Elena 2 apartments were well spaced out, and the dining area was more than big enough! Although Elena2 is situated directly opposite a pool bar that likes to make lots of noise well into the night and is on a busy main road - HAVE YOU SEEN HOW THOSE GREEKS DRIVE!!!- Elena 1 is a 5 min walk from elena 2 down a quite road, but the pool and snack bar are worth the walk. George and Jenny dont speak much English but Van is as nice as they come! (and little alfie!! aww i lubb you alfie!) haha anyway. Elena is situated quite a walk away from sidari town centre and the long road you have to walk up is very dangerous i had two very bad experiences with the locals - one in which ended with the police getting envolved and has made me scared to go out anywhere in the dark or alone.
But Elena was fab! Thanks George, Jenny and Alfie! Oh and how can i forget Lucy. Your fab darling, thanks for your help!
Oh but beware the gardener lol, he likes to STARE - especially at 14 yr old girls eurgh!

is it really quiet in elena hotels and is there much chance of me meeting any friends??? please could i have some pictures?

Kaci H

i'm only 12 and my mum has booked us a holiday to the elena apartments in sadari, everyone on this website has said that it is quiet and peacefull, i would just like to ask if it really is quiet? Because being 12 i want to meet friends and it sounds like it is quiet and no children have fun there. And if its possible could any body please send me a photo of the apartments, if not please e mail me with the answer to my question. i dont no if i like it or not and i dont no if its average either, its just that i didnt no how to get on to how you ask the questions.

Angela S

I just had to say my piece about this complex! My husband, myself and our 14 year old daughter stayed here in June 2000. I have been trying to locate this place ever since. (cosmos/kosmar) We loved our stay with George, Jenny and their son, who was home from Uni at that time, proberbly graduated now? I cried when we had to leave, but I did send photos which were always put up around the bar from year to year. Do football shirts still adorn the walls and ceilings? My husband Colin used to fish in the mornings and take his catch to Jenny, who would actually cook them for us! The only downer was the Mozzies, I had to be injected a couple of times due to the bites - and george wrapped my feet in bags of ice on our last day so that the swelling would go down before our flight - it was touch and go whether the Doc would let me fly - I wish he'd kept me there! The reason I felt compelled to give this area of corfu the thumbs up is because I took a last minute deal in August 2003 and ended up in Kavos! It's hard to comprehend how disgusting this end of the island is compared to Sidari, roda, paleo areas. I'd advise anyone not to go to the other end unless they want noise, filthy beaches, hostility, etc from a virtually 'all Brits' zone akin to Ibiza's San Antonio and Cyprus' Aya Napa - and Blackpool! Please can anyone steer me in the direction of a tour operator that deals with Elena Apartments!

Susan

Hello ive heard good things about this apartment by all u guys out there could sumone send me any pics of it please im off on the 29th thank u

Julie G

I stayed at the elena with my partner phil in august , we thought it was really nice , we would go back as we thought the people were nice especally spiros!!!!!!!!the elena is 5 mins walk from beach and was in a good location

Fiona N

what is the night life like? how far from the apartments? has n e body stayed in the 6 person villa? what are the villas like?

Alison T

We stayed at the Elena Apts about 25 mins walk from Sidari centre.
Apartments very basic but nice. The atmosphere was very friendly and we found the staff to be really pleasant and cheerful(although not many of them!!!). Not a great deal of entertainment going on but that suited us as it was nice and quiet.Only one word of warning-----WATCH OUT FOR THE MOSQUITOS they will eat you alive.Only criticism was that the sheets were only changed once during our 2 week stay but we would definately stay there again.

Rabiah M

Just got back from elena yesterday. We stayed at elena studios/ apartments (there seems to be more than one) We had a fantastic time. Great location - literally 2 mins from the beach (u could see it from our balcony!) and about 5 mins from the main town. Night life was totally buzzing. Apartments had own bar and supermarket - very convenient. Only prob we had was that the water would go off for hours at a time. However I think that this is a problem common to most places in sidari. Generally, would highly recommend elena to anyone who's up for a good time.

Tina S

My friend and I are going to Sidari, staying in Elena, has anybody got any nice piccies you can email me on sundishunny@breathe.com (not after 22nd July)

Helen J

There are lots of different appartments in sidari called the elena appartments, so where are u staying? If it's the elena studios and appartments then they come highly reccomended from me.

Tony G

myself and my family went to the Elena appartments in sept 2000 the owners are GEORGE,JENNY & CO are excellent hosts and their food any time of day is home cooked and tastes great.the kids facilities are great to as is clean pool, table tennis, swing park, video games and pool table.the kids loved it.Jenny even made a special birthday cake and laid on a little party at no extra cost to us.We went back to Sidari in may 2001 to different accomadation that was not as pleasing.we are returning to elena july 2003 and are realy looking forward to meeting up with such lovely people.
The town of sidari is a short 10 minute walk with the beach at the bottom of the road.beach is long with shallow seas very good for small kids and big kids they have peddloes, speed boat rides ,banana and biscuit rides ect,we personally found 2 of the best priced and portioned tavernas they are boleros and fatty's which cater very well for everybodies taste even our fussy son.If you want free security boxes, travellers cheques and the best priced day trips visit PHILLIP VALASSAROS opposite the three brothers hotel on the main strip.the best place to visit and stay and will return time and time again

Jacqui R

The apartments were about 25mins walk from the nightlife and about 20mins from the beach. The apartments are basic but clean and very relaxed. We hired some mountain bikes to go to and from the beach, much easier and quicker.

Sharon F
