Spiros Taverna - (Restaurants in Paleokastritsa)

Jim W

Barbeque night is a must. Huge portions of spit roast chicken and lamb at reasonable prices. Spiros is very much hands on and will ensure you are well catered for.
The taverna is situated on the approach to Paleo, very close to the Aphrodite Complex. Quite a walk from the resort centre however.

Boat trip to Parga (mainland Greece) - (Corfu Excursions)

Jim W

The price as of May 2003 is still 34 euros. There is no difference in price if booking direct with a tour operator.
Parga and Paxos are both lovely, and we are tempted to return. The ship was busy with people jostling for the best seats.
We were supposed to cruise around Anti-Paxos, but this was not possible due to the ships late departure from Corfu Town.
The sea was rough on our return from Paxos to Corfu, but otherwise an enjoyable, if long day, having left our resort at 07.40 and returning at 20.30 hrs.

Trip to Corfu Town - (Corfu Excursions)

You are as well doing this independantly. The local buses are approximately one and a half euros for a one way fare, and you can look around the town at your leisure. Beware though, the buses do get crowded.

Olympic Holidays - (Tour Operators on Corfu)

Jim W

The transfer to the airport from Paleo was a nightmare, going to Sidari, Dassia and then on to the airport. The journey took over two hours for a forty minute direct transfer.
The knowledge of the staff at the airport left a lot to be desired. They did not have a clue which check in desk it was, when all other companies already had this information.
On checking out of our apartments, we were expected to walk exactly one kilometre to pick up our tranport. Our cases had been collected five hours before this.

Fotini Complex - (Accommodation in Paleokastritsa)

Jim W

Lovely location, although the hill is daunting on first encounter.
Meals at the pool bar are of a decent quality, serving the usual snacks. The crepe surprise is a must fott anyone with a sweet tooth.
The pool area is available to people from outside the complex, and we ended up with the family from hell during our vacation, but maybe we were unlucky.
At night it was reasonably quiet, although the usual dogs, roosters, donkeys and some aircraft noise could be heard (it is the Greek Islands after all).
There is a lot of repeat bookings for the Fotini, and it is not hard to see why as the setting is beautiful, and the staff very welcoming.
The downside though is that the transfer bus drops you off at the bottom of the hill as it cannot manouvre up this, and on the return journey if your pick-up time is after 12 mid-day you have to walk 1 kilometre to the pick-up point. We complained to the rep about this, and if enough people do the same perhps Olympic will change its policy.
I would advise you to take bath towels as you are only supplied with handkerchiefs. There are no shower facilities for late departures-you have to vacate your room at mid-day.

May - (Best Time to Visit)

Jim W

Stayed in Paleo from the 12th to 26th May, 2003.
For the second year running the temperature has been hotter than usual, reaching 34c during the day.
A lot of scent in the air as jasmine, roses and honeysuckle blooming.
There was the odd cloudy day, but still warm and great for walking about in.
