Roda - (Resorts on Corfu)

First timer to Roda and thought the place was really nice - friendly locals, good bars and some great restaraunts, must mention the Bootleggers restraunt here as it did outstanding local greek dishes. Stayed at the Aprodite Hotel which is over the road (literally) from the beach. Hotel was basic and the bed a bit small and hard (was a double) and the shower had a mind of its own but otherwise it served it surpose. Roda is small and has a good beach with nice warm clear water, and what surprised me was how cheap everything is - meals \ drinks \ shopping and the rest, but its not too small that we didnt need to eat \ drink in the same places everynight. The place IS geared towards the English tourist but its not over the top and tacky - their is a good balance between local and tourist amenities. We did a mini-cruise at Paelokastritsa which was special - the waters were blue and clear and the scenery breathtaking - corfu is the nicest place ive visited in this respect - as a scudadiver i also went snorkelling here and found it not to be too disinteresting with varied fish life to watch and play with, we hired the cruise from a local shop so u dont have to go with what the Rep offers - in total id say their were about 8 cruises to various locations on offer, we paid 58 euros for 2 people which is a bargain ! We also hired a quad-bike (20 euros) in Roda - u can also hire Scooters and Moterbikes as long as u have the full appropriate licence, this was fun as u get to go onto the windy roads of Corfu which at times are narrow and hazardous - not for the faint hearted. All in all a great place - i really hope Roda doesnt become an overblown tourist resourt like Ipsos or Kassiopi which we briefly passed through and I hope Corfu doesnt sell its sole to the tourist trade like Spain did all those years ago...
