San George Apartments - (Accommodation in Sidari)

Sarah W

Hello,

I have booked to go the St Georges (via Kosmar) but they are not in the holiday gazetteer that the travel agents use - and was told by the travel agent that this meant that the St George apartments couldnt be used by any reputable English Travel company.  There were good reviews of the San George though - it looks the same but I am really confused by the regular changes of name. What is the correct name please ?

Also would like any comments or reviews on the 2 bed apartment in the St/San George apartments, Good for a family of 5 ? Is it on the ground floor and near the pool ?  Is it 2 bedrooms and a bathroom/kitchen or other space too ? Is there a patio or a balcony, is it shared ?
Is the 2 bed apartment close to the bar; have read some reviews about noise at night and dont want to be right above the bar with small kids. Do the apartments have aircon and safe deposit boxes please ?

Where are the St/San George apartments - near the Canal D'Amour end towards Megali - or elsewhere ? Are they easy to find and does anybody have a GPS position for them, or a good idea of where they are on the map ?

Also - going with Kosmar, and want to hire a car for at least part of the 2 weeks, lots of horror stories on here about the transfer from the airport. Is it really that bad and would it be easier to hire a car from the airport and drive ourselves ? Any other hints for cheap car hire in Sidari ?

Lastly, do the apartments have their own website anywhere, could not seem to find it !

Sorry -loads of questions -just keen to go...

Thanks in advance for any help available.

Elena Apartments - (Accommodation in Paleokastritsa)

Sarah W

Have not been to the Elena apartments since 2006 so slightly out of date, but as only one review thought that an old one was better than none !

Nice apartments - basic. Usual heavy Greek pine furniture, two equal sized bedrooms, small functional kitchen and bathroom, communal space disappointing - small square hallway with table and chairs in it. Balconies are variable - some massive, some narrow and long. At the time I stayed there was not a pool, but understand that one is being put in. Given space available however it will have to be small. Not a problem the nearest pool is at the Philoxenia Studios; large and well kept -just a very small stroll away - however 25 yards along a  busyish road with no pavements - so not ideal for children to walk on their own. In fact the Elena does not really have any public spaces at all, use the Philoxenia for everything, including safety deposit boxes and bar/food/swimming etc.

The main drive up to the Elena Apartments was sloping, but not steep. However Paleo as a whole is not ideal for people with limited mobility as very steep in places. If you are particularly agile ask for the top apartments as these have the largest balconies (however one is also used as a gangway for the other top-floor apartment) so swings and roundabouts.

Location - quite a way from the harbour down busy windy road with no pavements. However 4 -5 excellent tavernas nearby, and supermarket and bureau de change (both in supermarket and at campsite alongside) very close by. Swimming off cliffs at bottom of lots of steps.

We went with smaller children 6&8 - fine for them but teenagers may have been bored. Paleo is a very quiet place in comparison to the bigger resorts - and very spaced out. But this was ideal for us.
Car hire would be beneficial - but main bus to Corfu town stops outside the apartments if you prefer this.
If you do hire a car try George (Paleo institution - hard to miss) good cheap cars, get a smaller one - the road from Paleo to Lacones is better with a smaller car. Try trek to Angelo Kastro and Arillas over the mountain. If hiring car, park it in under the swimming pool area at the Philoxenia Studios - and keep it cool !

If looking at the picture of the Philoxenia Studios on the Kosmar site/brochure the Elena Studios can be seen to the back right of the picture -so shows how close it is to the pool - and the pool bar (which is regularly open late)

If I did not now have 3 children I would return here like a shot as it is good value for money, unfortunately it has a max capacity of 4 so am out of luck.

Have fun.
