Sidari - (Resorts on Corfu)

Mandy C

A group of 8 of us (4 adults and 4 children aged 6, 6, 3 and 9 months) stayed at the Cristina Apartments at the quieter end of town, in the first week in June, which was lovely for relaxing by the pool in the day (if you can relax with kids that is!) and really good in the evening when you wanted to sleep. This is the second time we have been here - we stayed 8 years ago when we didn't have the kids. They have daily evening entertainment, quiz, karoke, etc.

The pool area is exceptionally clean and there is a smaller kids pool which was ideal for us. The bar food, both breakfast and lunch is very good and well priced. We didn't eat there in the evening.

Our apartment was one of the older ones, but was well kept and very clean. We had maid service every day, except Sunday.

Owners are exceptionally friendly and will do most things for you, one of us had a birthday during our stay and they were able to arrange a cake for us, which was nice of them.

The best places to eat are the Chinese opposite the fruit stall and the Olympic(or Olympia) at the other end of town. Also, we found the Pizzeria was excellent value for money. We ate there on our last night and wished we been in there earlier - it was a cheapest meal costing only 35 euros and that included drink.

There is a large (in Greek terms)supermarket which sells almost anything. If you have young ones - it does jarred baby food (Nestle) and you can get Pampers and Johnsons baby wipes there - but these are quite expensive approximately 1.5 times our prices at home. They do other brands though.

If you have young children I would recommend taking a buggy for their safety. There are no pavements in Sidari and there is a main road running all through it. The crossroads by McDonalds is dangerous - there is traffic coming from all directions, no-one gives way and no-one stops for you.

Don't bother going on the crazy golf - it's a rip off and smells - we discovered why a little later on through our game - they have a dog chained up round the back and he seems to have done its business on or close to the course. Go carts (also in the same place) don't look safe and are also expensive.

We hired a car through our rep and paid just under £100.00 for 2 days hire of a group c, with insurance and child car seats.

We went into Corfu town - warning get there extremely early as parking is a nightmare. We gave up in the end after trying for about an hour to find somewhere to park and went to Kanoni. It's lovely here, but the roof top restuarant is very windy. You can see the planes come and go here if you like that sort of thing.

We went back to Corfu town the following night by car at arond 6.30 pm and found somewhere to park straight away. I would recommend going to the town at night - it has more of an atmosphere and the shops are great here - this is where we spent alot of money!

We didn't go the beach in Sidari as it was quite a walk and at the other end of town. The weather wasn't too good for the first couple of days and there isn't much to do if it's raining. There is a bowling alley at the other end of town and a few of the bars show kids films in the afternoon and a few have play areas. The bowling alley only has two lanes, and this is usually a wait.

If you can, try to visit Kassiopi - this is a really picturesque harbour town and has loads of shops and places to eat and drink. It's not far from Sidari, but you will need transport.

We also visited Paleo in the day, again by car. It's lovely here and the beach is better than at Sidari. You can hire a boat taxi to take you into the caves to have alook round (we didn't actually do this as the sea was a bit choppy on the day we were there).

If you're prone to being bitten by insects, take loads of spray. I took one with 50% deet included and still got bitten. And make sure you take your mosi plugs for the evenings in your room.

All in all, we did have a great time and would go back again.

Christina Apartments - (Accommodation in Sidari)

Mandy C

A group of 8 of us stayed at Christina for the first week in June. One family stayed in the older apartment, and one in another block in a newer apartment. We thought that they were very clean and well maintained. We had a proper cooker, fridge freezer, kettle, and sandwich toaster to use in the kitchen.

We had maid service every day except Sunday and towels were changed on a regular basis.

The bar area by the pool and pool itself are exceptionally clean. They have Sky TV in the bar, and the public toilet area was also very clean. The bar and toilets were only refurbished last year.

We thought the English breakfast was good value, as were bar snacks and drinks.

Yes, it is a bit of a walk into town, but our brochure, probably as others do didn't say it was right on the doorstep of the action. If you want to be in the much noiser part of town, stay at the other end. We had young children and wanted to sleep at night and wanted a quiet area for them to play in during the day. It took us about 15-20 minutes to walk right into town at night, but we did have young children with us and walked at their pace. There are lots of bars and restuarants closer than this though, the first lot being about a 5 minute walk away. Things pick up once you have passed the supermarket on the right hand side.

We alsoo enjoyed staying here and would stay again.
