Sidari - (Resorts on Corfu)

Dave E

evening all,
i was a holiday rep in sidari last year, it is a fantastic place to base yourself whether you are looking for a lively active holiday or a relaxing time there really is something for everyone.
Starting at the BP garage end of sidari (roda / airport side). As you come into Sidari you will approach a few bars and restaurants, a fantastic Indian, Spiros the owner is very friendly and will cook anyting you request. The chinese just along the road is fantastic to. You then come to the water park well hmmm its got 2 or 3 slides really not worth the visit, how ever the trips to the aqua park (nr corfu town) are and well worth the money, it has heaps to do, the pirates boat is fantastic fun as is the new wave pool (well new last yr) you've got tyhe lazy river to chill out on or for the more adventurous the kamakazi (girls dont wear a bikini and guys keep the legs crossed). you get food and drink there to its not to expensive but you can take your own picnic to plenty of sunbeds and they dont charge you for them. ok so back to sidari, you then hit the main street, at the crossroads next to McD's. Just before McD's you have the best mexican in the village, you must try it good food and not expensive. to the right you have the little port and some fish restaurants, to the left the bypass of the main street and that leads to the car park and footie pitches or straight on for the fun and entertainment. To start with you have your shops, supermarkets, tourist tack shops, clothes shops and plaes to buy trips. further up you have some of the best bars and nightclubs. Try SHAKERS with big screen tvs, movies, sports and the best music its the best bar by far, even has a play park at the back for the kids. Family fun in to the early hours, not to mention endless drinking games and table and bar top dancing, the dj was a young english lad called ben who will quite happily play requests and the greek barmen are the lady killers! hehe this is where all the reps party down to, it also does good food all day. Last year there was 3 night clubs all of which offer good music and are very busy but not till later on considering the pubs are open all ours. Opposite shakers is a bungy ball which is a must for after dinner and sevral drinks, can you hold on to your stomach!!! There is every bar on this street for everyone whether you watn, quiet, relaxing, comfy, loud, music, videos, soaps, locals, food, disco dancing, drinking competitions anything all within a 2 min walk, not to mention foam parties, toga parties everything.
THe beach is alright but not the best (the main beach) if you head round to canal d'amore you will find loads of litle beaches, in bays with golden sand. you will prob get your own bay if your are up early enough. The canal d'amore is a much quieter area of sidari with bars and restaurants. This are is more family orientated but still and enjoyable night out. If you have a free evening be sure to jump in a taxi and ask to go to paradise beach, ust before sunset, paradise beach is a place with the best view ever. As the sun sets you can enjoy dinner at the panormaic restaurant or a quiet drink on the cliff over looking the beach, bout 150ft below u. The view looks onto three islands where the sun sets over them and jsut gives you that tingly feeling down your back, its like something out of the movies. A must see and a really romantic place as well. Great beach during the day to fantastic waves. You must also go to Corfu town be it by bus the loacal bus service is not to bad, not guaranteed to arrive but when it does it will take you to the right place. Do corfu town at night, take in some shopping and do dinner the atmosphere is fantastic, the little streets and shops will keep you entertained for hours. Tour opertaors do trips down by boat which is a fantastic way to see a bit of the island. My advice would be to take a taxi back home, prob gonna cost about 30 euros but means your are not tied for time and corfu town doesnt shut down till after midnight anyway. Cant remember anything else that you guys have asked but will go and have a look and come back to you. If you have any questions give me a shout i'll see what i can do. Oh you can also walk to roda from sidari, its is a good hike but you can do it along the beach front.

Hannah, your appartments are about a 2 min walk into town, directly opposite the beach, great location and the noise from town wont keep you awake. plenty to do during the day and at night.

Lou, as for your comments with the 'ripping off' and tours from opertators, i totally agree with you in some respects as the will do tours to close by places, much cheaper to do it on ur own, with regards to insurancce and local companies, all im gonna say is WRONG, watch out some of them are cowboys, and i had a case last year where a trip booked locally went completely wrong and there is nothing ur rep can do to help (their boss wont let them) They are not all insured regardless of what they say, asked to see certificates and for things such a scuba diving, ask to see their licences, better to know before you go that everything is safe and legal.
