Elena Apartments - (Accommodation in Sidari)

I went as a l;ast minute booking.
The coach trip from the airport takes approx 1.5 hours - but dont worry it goes very quickley as it's al the drop off and you get a chance to see the different areas of Corfu as you travel up north to Sidari.
Elena Appartments are family run - but are very basic studio appartments - which in my view is all you need. It is quiet and relaxing and only a few yards from the main stretch - but that doesn't make an impact with any noise. There is a small and a medium pool attached - if you on the lover floors you can hop over the terrace and into the pool area. To pools have plenty of room even if the complex if full - rember though - ALL hotles and appartments encourage you to eat, drink and swim in there accomodation - so different visitors each day are expected. And if you go for a wlak take towels etc so you can enjoy other pools as well.
There is a very nice bar attached to the appartments which opens at 9am every - fresh tea and coffee and snacks all day - and of course "beer!". The staff are very friendly and helpful and get to know the residents. It closes when you leave or they are too tired! They do bbq, show DVD's of the latest films - have football showing -so guys you wont miss any important games!)It is very peaceful - even though the beach is only a 3 minutes walk away and so is the main Sidari town. There is plenty for everyone from 1 month old to the OAP's! Resturants are plenty and all bars are potential night clubs - there are greek night - but you need to book as they are at different venus on different nights. The food is reasonabley priced (2 adults and 1 child approx £10 - £15.00) You can also get the traditional english food at any of the eatiries if you miss home that much!.
A must is to hire out a moped/scooter. Crash helmets are optional - but in some towns they must be worn. Prices start at about £7.00 per day but I recomend that you hire for a week where the owners will make you fantastic deals - we hired 2 scooters for 4 days and it cost £18.00!!!!! (Jim's Bikes on the main one way system - dont forget your drivers licence!)Travel around the island following the beach roads - you can do 1/4 of the island in a day and stop at the most georgeous beaches I have ever seen. (Petrol stations are placed very conveniently and the scooters cost about £2.00 to fill to full - about 3.5 euros) The locals are very friendly- whereever you go. Try out the local resturants and sample the greek food - super! There is also the reverse bungee to be done- along the main town road - Go for it!!! - it costs (August 2003) £10 per person - WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!
Shopping is minimal (But hey you didn't go to shop!!??)- but great bargis to be found and nobody in England will have the sylish trousers/top you happend to find. Coach trips go each day to Corfu town - quite a long treck - but great if you want to shop, shop, shop!!!
What else can I say about Sidari - travel around - see the history and culture - Relax during the day and party till your heart is content in the evening or just sit and chill uinder the blue sky and warm breeze.
I loved it - so much I am back again in May to see any bits I may of missed!!
ENJOY!!!!

Hi Kay Whittle,
Yes the Elena Appartments are with Golden Sun. A long family run business by Elena herself - well the original owners grand daughter now(!) As I mentioned before they are VERY BASIC - sorry I have no pictures - I haven't as yet upgraded to a digital camera! They are one room with twin beds. As you walk in there is a cooking facility (very basic) on the left with a basic bathroom next to it - shower, toilet and wash basin - again very basic - remember you can not flush toilet paper down the loo - so a good suggestion is to take scented nappy sacks to put waste paper in! Toilet paper quite hard - bring some soft paper from home) Opposit this is a small table and two chairs for eating if required. The beds are along the wall to the left with a dressing table and mirror on the right and a wardrobe infront of you. The double balcony or terrace doors are also infront of you and if you are lucky enought to have a ground floor studio you can hop over and into the pool.
Another small but good warnign is the mosquitos!!! You will probabley get bitten - areas of Spain and the Canarys. I would recomend that you buy sprays, lotions and plug in's and the slow burining "coils" so when you sleep at night it does keep them at bay some what.(They are pretty cheap in Corfu - but you will need them as soon as you arrive in your room.) Please dont be put of by this as it will not hinder your hoilday. - Apparently they hate potassium - so eat a banana a day a few weeks before you go and while you are there and they can go and bug others instead of you - oh and they hate garlic - that call is up to you!
We only stayed a week and our sheets were not changes once - a friend stayed two weeks and had fresh shees for the 2nd week only - a hand towl and a bath mat wer provide each week and they DID NOT replace then - however dirty - I asked for new ones and it took two days to get them!! - so pack your own bathm pool etc towels - and sheets if you require. The appatrmenments were tidied and mopped every other day.
The reps (good to above average) come every 2 -3 days for any problems that may arrise and there is a notice board on the complex to show when pick up's and departures are due. The bar staff will also help you if there are great problems and the supermatket next door is also owned by the owners so they are on hand if there are any urgent problems.
Sorry to go on - but I hope this helps you - I am sure you will have a great time - think I've mentioned everything - but any other questions I'll try and help if possible.
Enjoy!
