Another fantastic week at Villa Sofia - thanks Kostas & Sofia.
The one bed apartment really has two twin beds - no reorganinsing of furniture. the others were very happy with the studios as well. The AC is excellent - the telephone charges were extremely reasonable. I have rated the quiteness as excellent because compared to even the Zues next door it is one of the quietest spots in town.
We met some wonderful people again - local workers and holiday makers - thanks to Ang, Gary, Richard, Doug, the Newcastle couples, and special hello to Rachel & Chris.
The kids ( yes Keith you are still a big one) who work the local bars were a pleasure to meet again - sorry I don't remember all your names but a special hello to Brian.
Note : Please don't go to Ipsos if you want a quiet, undisturbed holiday. There are other resorts on the beautiful island of Corfu which would be more suitable. But, if you can stand a couple of splashes from a pool, good humoured fun and love to see others enjoying themselves - without losing your cool , then this is the place for you.
Just noticed whilst staying at Villa sofia that these apartments have been refurbished very recently and look nothing like last time - see my comment from 2002.
I don't know whether you can book via a British travel agent because there was a sign outside to contact Pirgi travel.
Can't tell you much else because I didn't stay in them but thought it only fair to write an updated report after my previous one.
Just wanted to say Hi to Keith the DJ - thanks for introducing us to the rest of the gang working yours and other bars.
Had a brill holiday again - it's different as you can appreciate when you have kids with you - we don't get to see the later hours ( perhaps as well cos me and Allan still think we are in our twenties with a shot or two down our necks - thanks Kostas).
Did see the first part of the drag act - 10 out of 10.
Pump it up, u got 2 pump it up!
Take care all - nearly the end of season now - love Maggie
Ipsos is fantastic. I have been to many places around the world - and have to say that Ipsos has lots going for it.
It is only a samll place so everything is in easy reach, and unless you are staying up the hills at either end, you are mainly on the flat. It is great for families as well as the 18-30 crowd - the 24hr day splits nicely e.g. a family can visit any of the bars up to midnight/1am - then the younger crowd come out - they don't hit the strip until then because their night goes on until 6am ish. Note - don't stay in apartments near the strip if you want to sleep - stay up the Pirgi road - and bars/ shops are cheaper the further out you go. There are signs of investment ( refurbishing), but Ipsos is really struggling because the tour operators have zoned in on Sidari. It is a nice place and a better beach, but having a Macdonalds and Pizza Hut doesn't draw me to Greece!!!! I much prefer the mix of Greek restaurants/bars and the 'pubs/clubs' that Ipsos has to offer. The food is excellent too - whether Greek ( I love Stifado) or Chinese, Indian or British, I have NEVER had a bad meal.
There are ATM's - chemist - doctors - everything you need - really good clothes shops, and as far as WE holiday makers make it possible, the owners of the establishments keep the toilets/rooms etc as clean as they can.
The only down sides are SOME ( vast majority it feels like at times) Italians in the summer months are really ignorant to Greeks and tourists alike. If only they would realise that they are not welcome behaving that way and move on to somewhere else, or better still learn some respect and put their hands in their pockets.
The beach is not fantastic, but is adequate for the crowd of young uns who use it to chill after the night/morning before. We like the pools best - you can use most as long as you purchase drinks/food from them.
I've just had a holiday with mum and dad - I had room to myself, and even though there was no one my own age staying here, the Greek children of the family who owned it sometimes came. Two years ago when we stayed here I made friends with a few people.
I also made friends both times with the people who work in the pubs nearby - they were really nice especially Brian this time and Mary-Lou last time, and Keith both times.
It's funny when the younger ones are having fun, but not when your mum and dad join in!!
I bought some great CDs while I was here at the pool and have seen films before they come out in England.
Back home safe, weather here humid and no pool/sea to dip in Have a great but not too drunk birthday ladyboy!!
Hi to everyone else - Theo, Artie(fantastic show), Sam, Rachael, Barry & Craig...nice to meet you all. Sorry if I was a bit too much last Monday night I paid for it the rest of the week. You got to credit me for trying at my age
Have a great season - A TEAM - look after each other and hope to see you all again next time.
