Hi the apartments are basic but thats fine for a self catering holiday they were clean but could do with updating, the only problem we had was the pre-booked taxi which i paid £100 for a return trip to the airport when we arrived we had to look for the taxi which took a hour then they gave us a mini bus we travelled about 10k then was transfered to a car in the middle of nowhere, anyway we reach our apartment and had a good two weeks holiday,But on the return trip we rang and spoke to the taxi company they said they pick us up at 10.15 to take us to the airport but they never turn up so we had to pay for a private taxi which cost 50euro's we arrived at the airport with 5minutes to spare not good, so if you pre-book a taxi DON'T USE DELTANET_CORFU TAXI, been back a week still trying to get a refund from the co-op no joy as yet, phone keeps going dead after staying on the line for 40 minutes

SO don't pre-book taxi's they are cheaper at the airport about 40euro's each way.

Just come back from 6 days at these apartments, no one to greet us when we arrived just a key in the door and our name on a piece of paper stuck to the door, very very basic and the owners sister who was the cleaner seen once on our stay just to tell us in very abrupt tones when we were to get out of the apartment (which we already knew anyway) was not a great ambassador for her brothers accommodation. Beds were very uncomfortable new mattresses would be a definate plus. No problems with the resort lovely and friendly but would never go back to this particular accommodation very disappointed as in 30 years of going to different islands  the Greek people have always been wonderful and friendly, this one woman spoilt the whole experience for us.

My husband and I have stayed at Elena many times over the last several years and would highly recommend it. At first we took our 2 daughters along and in recent years, due to my husbands poor health, I have been back with both daughters. These family run apartments are ideal in many ways and apart from the excellent service the family themselves made us feel very welcome.

I struggled to find recent reviews for the Elena apartments so having literally just come back from two weeks (August 2008) I thought I would add my thoughts.

The apartments are clean, although basic (but then Greece is always basic so no surprises there!) and are pretty well equiped. The living area is tiny, just enough room for a table and chairs, although the balcony's are huge so most of the living is done outside of the apartment. The bedroms are both big and lots of space for clothes and suitcases. The kitchen is adequate, but I was glad we took our electric kettle (and I'd recommend a couple of mugs if you are coffee/tea drinkers as all the cups are tiny) as the kettle on the hob would have taken a age to boil!

The air conditioning is extra to the cost of the rooms, at 10 Euros a day per unit (there is a unit in each bedroom) and even though we were on holiday during a heatwave we were kept nice a cool when we needed to be!

The new swimming pool is not fancy, but a corner of the pool is very shallow and our two children loved it to play in, and it's cleaned each evening by the owner.

We had hired a car for the two weeks as we love to get out and about, and to be honest I'm glad we did a the apartments are a little away from the harbour. Having said that the tavernas local to the apartment are very nice and we ate there most evenings.

All in all a lovely place to visit and although the apartments aren't a luxury, they do the job very well indeed! I would recommend.

Have not been to the Elena apartments since 2006 so slightly out of date, but as only one review thought that an old one was better than none !

Nice apartments - basic. Usual heavy Greek pine furniture, two equal sized bedrooms, small functional kitchen and bathroom, communal space disappointing - small square hallway with table and chairs in it. Balconies are variable - some massive, some narrow and long. At the time I stayed there was not a pool, but understand that one is being put in. Given space available however it will have to be small. Not a problem the nearest pool is at the Philoxenia Studios; large and well kept -just a very small stroll away - however 25 yards along a  busyish road with no pavements - so not ideal for children to walk on their own. In fact the Elena does not really have any public spaces at all, use the Philoxenia for everything, including safety deposit boxes and bar/food/swimming etc.

The main drive up to the Elena Apartments was sloping, but not steep. However Paleo as a whole is not ideal for people with limited mobility as very steep in places. If you are particularly agile ask for the top apartments as these have the largest balconies (however one is also used as a gangway for the other top-floor apartment) so swings and roundabouts.

Location - quite a way from the harbour down busy windy road with no pavements. However 4 -5 excellent tavernas nearby, and supermarket and bureau de change (both in supermarket and at campsite alongside) very close by. Swimming off cliffs at bottom of lots of steps.

We went with smaller children 6&8 - fine for them but teenagers may have been bored. Paleo is a very quiet place in comparison to the bigger resorts - and very spaced out. But this was ideal for us.
Car hire would be beneficial - but main bus to Corfu town stops outside the apartments if you prefer this.
If you do hire a car try George (Paleo institution - hard to miss) good cheap cars, get a smaller one - the road from Paleo to Lacones is better with a smaller car. Try trek to Angelo Kastro and Arillas over the mountain. If hiring car, park it in under the swimming pool area at the Philoxenia Studios - and keep it cool !

If looking at the picture of the Philoxenia Studios on the Kosmar site/brochure the Elena Studios can be seen to the back right of the picture -so shows how close it is to the pool - and the pool bar (which is regularly open late)

If I did not now have 3 children I would return here like a shot as it is good value for money, unfortunately it has a max capacity of 4 so am out of luck.

Have fun.

When we first arrived we were a bit disappointed with the decor of the appartments, feeling we'd been transported back to the seventies. But when we got used to it, we felt very much at home and being on the top floor we had a massive balcony with absolutely stunning views of the mountains. The lady who cleans (and who owns the appartments too) is second to none. She came to clean every other day and did a great job. I would certainly return here.
